(((((((((((((((Don't Sweat It)))))))))))))))
Still alive, still kicking...
Hello!! Good morning good afternoon good evening goodnight, it's time for the SPRING EDITION of WKJLBCCJED1 pirate radio, in Cooper Creek!! Well? It was only a matter of time before I had to respond to the suggestion that I take the time to read Sonny Barger's autobiography after my glowingly positive reading of Thompson's ''Hell's Angels'' on this podcast.
That Hunter was poetic about riding motorcycles strikes a chord with me. My first experience on a motorcycle was a strange and beautiful spiritual moment. It was a Honda CX-500 that had been rebuilt by a student at Interruban Campus Camosun College, Victoria and he did a brilliant job. The weird part was, I'd never ridden a motorcycle in my life and I just got on the thing and ripped it to the end of the block around the corner down the street and back in first, second, and third gear up to 70 km/hr. like I'd been doing it all my life. This was a mysterious inexplicable thing to me at the time, and still. Nobody taught me how to ride. It just came so naturally it felt like a spiritual connection of some kind blowing my spirit on the wind to something exciting, new, and deeply meaningful. I rode Hondas all over B.C. and Korea for years and got my Harley Sportster in 2006 – interesting what Sonny has to say about Harleys and Japanese bikes!! After that, I did the Vancouver to Nelson run 17 times round trip over the next decade. During this time I rode with the H.A. twice, quite by accident, and it was a thrill both times. The first time I was coming into Mission on my way to Maple Ridge and Haney (where I met one of the main guys at a bike shop) and a huge pack came up behind me at speed. It was just after sunset and dark and I had a full load on the back of my Sportster. I admit, my sphincter tightened up just a bit, but my answer to this was typical of my reactions at such times in life: Knowing the guy in the front would never let some average Joe ride in front of him I rode like a bat out of hell, as though I WAS the leader of the pack (which I would NEVER have suggested to any of them), like my life depended on it, and within about 5 minutes we hit a stop light and they were all turning left while I headed into the main strip of Mission. So they all rode up beside me and I looked them over and was impressed as always by the raw power a huge pack of motorcycles imparts – particularly when ridden by outlaw badasses. The second time was less spooky dramatic and a little more fun. Again on highway 7 out of Maple Ridge, this time heading East, two riders came up behind me fast and I waved them past – they had such low slung seats on them bikes and were riding so fast and naturally – one gave a wave and a laugh on his way by – and they looked like they were part of the machines they rode on – in a completely natural and awesome way. You know who they are by the patch, 'coz God help anyone wearing that thing that's not a real member!! After reading Sonny's book I know it was always about the bikes for him – FREEDOM!!! - and the pack – the “all for one” experience. “Brotherhood of Man” as Lemmy sings, the contrast of dark and light extreme. Sure, they did some bad things. But so have cops and so have governments – only on a much larger scale – and legally – which tells you something about the substance of our society in the West. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly...
I've begun reading Lemmy's autobiography already so there may be a bit of color from that in this podcast. I already wrote and recorded one new song entitled ''Don't Sweat It'' on mandolin(!!) inspired by Lemmy's ''Overkill'' (and Eddie Vedder!!) with emotional overtones from the state of the weird news and Canadian society here in April 2024. Things are MESSY, to say the least!! Now it's out in the yarrrrrhhhd and garrrrrrrrrhhhhden, chainsaw and brushsaw work in progress and now it's on with the garden of subsistence and into the garden of Eden once again!!!
Hunter Thompson is a hero to many of the young up and coming party people these days, who are gobbling drugs without any thought as to the consequences for whatever reasons - and he has a place in the culture without a doubt. I'd like to offer my peeps a glimpse of another side of Hunter they've likely never been acquainted with. An alternate perspective. The outlaw biker perspective..... So without further adodo, I'm going to read the entire (brief) chapter from Sonny's book on Hunter, as a fitting and proper counterbalance to my previous show, and let my listeners draw their own conclusions. It's pretty concise and well written so won't take all day and should be worth your precious time.
Speaking of time and space...
Things are fucky out there. Try to “Love your neighbor” and be cool.....
'Coz “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro!!”
- Classic Hunter Thompson.
Cheers.

Don't Sweat It
Don't sweat the small stuff
Don't sweat it, anymore.
Don't sweat it, anymore.
Don't sweat the small stuff anymore, anymore.
Anymore. Don't sweat the small stuff anymore.
The sky is blue
The Earth is green
A pale blue dot if you know what I mean
Everything's fine, everything's fucked,
Get it on down and don't sweat the small stuff
The Earth is blue, the sky is green
The whorly world's in a weirdo scene
Everything's great, everything's fucked
It must be the end of the world as we know it
So don't sweat the small stuff anymore, anymore.
Kick it. Out the door. Yeah, sweep it out the door in the morning time on the floor. Don't sweat the small stuff anymore, it ain't a problem.
The sky is blue, the Earth is green, a pale blue dot if you know what I mean.
Everything's fine, everything's fucked, get it on down and don't sweat the small stuff anymore. Don't sweat the small stuff anymore. It's out the door.
Get on out the door, and don't sweat the small stuff anymore.
Don't sweat the small stuff anymore, anymore.
Anymore, evermore, anymore everyday everyway everyday everywhich way.
Yeah.
Yep.
